About TopQuilt
TopQuilt is an independent resource dedicated to one piece of gear: the top quilt, and the sleep systems built around it.
Quilts have gone from a niche hammock-forum project to the default insulation for many backpackers and thru-hikers. Yet buying one is still confusing. Temperature ratings are not standardized, most of the best quilts are built to order by small cottage makers, and the options (fill power, width, length, footbox, baffle style, fabric) multiply quickly. We built TopQuilt to make those choices clear.

Our principles
- Honesty about method. Our reviews and picks are research-based: we analyze published specs, construction, materials, maker rating methods and consistent owner feedback. We never invent test results. See how we research.
- No pay-to-play. Brands cannot buy a place in our guides. Many of our top picks come from cottage makers that pay us nothing.
- Useful over long. Every page should answer a real question better than anything else you could read.
- Kept current. Cottage makers update designs and prices often; we revise pages when they do.
